She is a Board Certified Hypnotherapist, a Neurolinguistic (NLP) Practitioner, and Certified in Emotional Relief Techniques (EFT). She began her career in the medical field as a nurse at Hairmyres Hospital in Scotland and completed her training at Jackson Memorial/University of Miami Medical Center in Miami , Florida. Her specialty was brain and spinal cord injury, an area where devastating injuries changed peoples lives forever. Having experienced loss of family first hand to brain trauma, she has developed a compassion and understanding to work with patients and families and assist them get beyond the headlights of the car. After several years in this field, and following extensive education, she decided to go into private practice and co-founded Multilingual Rehabilitation and Assessment in Connecticut.
Dr. Gilmour has travelled to the other side of the world to bring you the full benefits of her experience, knowledge and skills. With her expert guidance, you will understand the psychology and the physiology behind your difficulties — a process that makes her stand out among her peers.
It is easy to understand why Dr. Gilmour choose to specialize in the area of Fertility and Birth by hypnosis. Not being able to conceive when you desperately want to become a parent holds just as much physical and emotional pain as any other injury to the self. The common thread through it all is her commitment to play a part in helping relieve the physical and psychological pain of others.
Throughout her career, Dr. Gilmour has demonstrated a deeply-held commitment to community service and social activism. From the very beginning, she has focused her efforts in three clustered categories; Sexually abused children, Spinal Cord Injury and Brain Trauma, and Veterans and the Homeless. Her commitment continues to this day.
From 1973 to 1974 while studying for her nursing degree. Dr. Gilmour also found time to address the needs of emotionally traumatized children, giving three nights a week to Kids in distress, a South Miami Intervention organization
After her graduation Dr Gilmour met Barth Green, MD an internationally-recognized neurosurgeon and expert in spinal cord injury. Dr Green invited her to join the neurosurgical team of nurses at The University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center. Dr Gilmour continued to apply her skills in the service of others, while working as a neurosurgical trauma nurse. For more than 25 years, she scoured the bridges of Biscayne Boulevard where the homeless were known to gather for shelter, offering blankets and making meals for those she found there.
MAIN SERVICES
Although I have chosen to specialize in hypnosis & fertility That in no way takes away from my experience in other areas, which, are as follows:
From her earliest days in Scotland, Dr. Gilmour was always at home in the water. She received the Bronze Medal for Life Saving at a young age along with numerous championship trophies for swimming. Her natural talents in the water, later became valuable attributes in an aquatic setting. At the Morningside Pool on Biscayne Boulevard in Miami, Dr, Gilmour could be found volunteering her time to work with paralyzed patients, some of whom would grow to progress to the point of being able to perform individual diving. This was groundbreaking service at the time, and the program would grow to become the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. For her efforts she was given an Award of Appreciation from the Rehabilitation Department of the Spinal Cord Injury organization. Dr Gilmour cared for Mark Buoniconti, son of FL Hall of Fame linebacker Nick Buoniconti. Mark graduated college and is the face of The Miami Project to cure paralysis.
Dr Gilmour, while pursuing her doctoral degree in neuropsychology, volunteered at the Camillus House, a non-profit organization that provided humanitarian services to the poor and homeless. For her efforts, Dr. Gilmour was presented with a volunteer service award by the Psychiatry Department of the university of Miami.
South Florida was Dr. Gilmour’s home base for nearly three decades, and she was frequently exposed to an array of traumatic emergencies, even natural disasters such as hurricanes that posed devastating risks to the people of the greater Miami area. Rather than run from such crises, Dr.Gilmour chose to intervene, assisting the National Guard in setting up on-site MASH units in hardest hit areas and providing emergency medical services through direct field work. She was known to stay in the field during traumatic situations, to include riots and sniper attacks continuing her work until the disaster was relieved.
Dr. Gilmour’s commitment to social service continued without interruption after she graduated (with distinction) with a degree in neuropsychology and her relocation to Connecticut.
Since her arrival in 1995, Dr. Gilmour has intervened on behalf of Greater Hartford’s homeless population, providing blankets and food in cold weather to those whose only home is a city bridge or a highway overpass. As a founding partner of Multilingual Rehabilitation and Assessment Services, located in Farmington, it is the policy of the company to provide treatment and testing to children suffering from attachment disorder and or abandonment/ adoption concerns, setting aside multiple appointment hours every week for those who need assistance on a pro bono basis. Dr. Cristina Ciocca (business partner) supports this project also using her time to do neuropsychological testing with underprivileged children.
As an experienced medical professional and well-respected doctor of neuropsychology with a myriad of advanced training, Dr. Gilmour remains on call for any disaster that might occur. In addition she has added post-war counseling and interventions for veterans returning from service in Iraq and Afghanistan with a range of emotional disorders, to include Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Dr. Gilmour offers her service to American servicemen in the field whenever they need her and provides confidential therapy via e-mail.
Residents of the Greater Hartford area are fortunate to have Dr. Gilmour, a seasoned neuro-psychologist expert with a long history of selfless public service, addressing their emotional needs and offering assistance in times of trauma.
